Making Room for What Matters
With Bri Weekly | Week 7
Last week, I found myself asking:
What am I keeping?
What still has potential?
What can I give?
And what am I ready to let go of?
Apparently this week decided to answer with another question:
Now that you know what matters, are you actually making room for it?
And somehow, that showed up everywhere.
There was room for fun.
I went to another card show, because apparently this hobby has officially claimed its space in my life. 😂 There was also a stop at Pizza Barn in Yonkers for what may genuinely have been the biggest pizza I have ever seen, followed by a pasta making class.
Cards, giant pizza, and homemade pasta all in one day feels like a pretty solid start to a week.
There was also room for a little anticipation.
My cruise is just over a week away, so I spent some time shopping for outfits and starting to think about what I want to wear and pack. There is something fun about preparing for a trip before you ever leave home. The planning, the outfits, and imagining yourself actually there are all part of the experience for me.
There was room for family.
We had a family beach day, and I got to spend time with my dad for his birthday.
And Tuesdays are quietly becoming something I really look forward to: my day with Mom.
This week we wandered around the mall and IKEA, then went back to continue watching our shows together. Does anyone else watch “The Oval”?
Nothing complicated. No big agenda.
Just time.
And I am realizing how much I value having the space in my life right now to simply be present with the people I love.
There was room for community and leadership too.
I attended a parade, spent time with my national leadership team, and closed out the week with a regional board meeting.
Leadership has been part of my life for a long time, but I am appreciating the opportunities that allow me to show up in a different way right now. Not because it is attached to a job title or a corporate responsibility, but because community matters to me.
And then there was the very literal version of making room.
I finally started bringing my pantry idea to life.
What began as moving things out of storage turned into reorganizing, cleaning, putting pieces together, and creating a space that actually works better for my family.
By Thursday, the pantry was finished and a LOT of cleaning had happened along the way. 😂
I love projects like this.
Give me a space that is not quite working, a vision of what it could become, and a puzzle to solve, and I can disappear into it for hours.
And maybe that is part of what I am learning about myself in this season too.
I like building.
I like taking pieces that feel scattered and figuring out how they fit together.
A pantry.
A website.
A collection.
A leadership vision.
A trip to look forward to.
A life.
For so many years, my calendar was dictated by what needed to happen next.
Work. Meetings. Deadlines. Responsibilities. Repeat.
Now I am getting the opportunity to be more intentional about what fills that space.
Family.
Creativity.
Community.
Joy.
Things I have wanted to build.
Experiences I want to have.
Things I never seemed to have enough time to consistently enjoy.
It does not mean every moment is productive.
And I am realizing I do not want it to be.
Sometimes making room for what matters looks like finishing a project.
Sometimes it looks like showing up for a meeting.
Sometimes it looks like planning outfits for a trip you cannot wait to take.
Sometimes it looks like sitting on the couch watching another episode with Mom.
And sometimes it looks like eating a ridiculously oversized slice of pizza. 😂
Last week was about deciding what deserves to stay.
This week reminded me that once you figure that out, you have to actually make room for it.
And I think I am getting better at doing exactly that.
With Bri, it’s a vibe. ✨
