The Good Stuff Is in the Ordinary

With Bri Weekly | Week 9

It has been a minute.

I missed the last two weeks of With Bri Weekly because first I was on vacation, and then, very realistically, I needed a little time to recover from vacation. 😂

Sometimes the vacation needs a vacation.

But I’m back.

And funny enough, this week did not give me one huge moment to write about. Instead, it was a collection of smaller moments that kept reminding me how much of life happens in the ordinary.

I cooked at home more than I normally do this week, both breakfast and dinner. It started with grocery shopping with the kids and making Cajun pasta for dinner, and somehow that simple rhythm of shopping, cooking, eating, and being home felt really good.

Nothing groundbreaking.

Just taking care of home and the people in it.

Of course, there were also cards. 😂

I made it to a couple more card shows this weekend because, at this point, I think we can officially stop pretending this is a casual hobby.

The kids also finally convinced me to try a dessert spot they had been sending me on Instagram.

They were right.

It was SO worth it. 😂

One of my favorite moments this week came from a conversation with my daughter.

She has been reading All American Boys, and hearing her talk about the book made me curious enough to buy a copy for myself.

I love that.

There is something really special about reaching a point where your kids are introducing you to things, sharing what they are thinking about, and creating conversations you might not have had otherwise.

Now I get to read it too, and I am looking forward to us being able to talk about it together.

Then there was one of those moments that probably looked completely ordinary to everyone else but meant a lot to me.

I watched all three of my kids play pool together.

No phones.

No tablets.

No one distracted by a screen.

Just the three of them playing, laughing, competing, and enjoying being together.

I remember looking at them and thinking, they are getting so big on me. 😭

I love watching them do things together.

As they get older, their lives are becoming more independent. They have their own interests, friends, schedules, and personalities. So when I catch a moment where they are genuinely enjoying each other, I notice it.

There is something beautiful about watching siblings bond when nobody is forcing the interaction.

For those few minutes, I did not need them to be doing anything productive.

I just wanted to watch them be together.

And maybe quietly hope that, as they continue growing up, they will always find their way back to each other.

There were creative moments this week too.

I started working on a reel about maximizing your days off in 2027, which sent me down one of those rabbit holes I actually enjoy, figuring out how holidays, weekends, and PTO can fit together to create more opportunities to actually live.

My sister and I also did the “send a picture every hour” trend.

It was simple and silly, but I loved getting those little windows into each other’s day.

Then fall sports officially arrived.

The first fall ball games meant about four hours sitting at the park.

Four. Hours. 😂

Still, there is something about watching your kids play that makes the time feel different.

These seasons go by so quickly.

I know there will eventually be a day when I am not packing snacks, checking game times, sitting behind a fence, or spending hours at a field.

So I am trying to appreciate it while I am in it.

There were also tacos that may have earned a spot among the best I have ever had, because apparently food was a supporting character in this week’s story. 😂

And even though Tuesday has usually become my day with Mom, we moved it to Thursday this week.

The day changed.

The tradition did not.

We spent time together, cooked a meal at my house, and still made time for our show, The Oval.

I ended the week with an LTA meeting, another reminder that leadership, community, family, and everyday life rarely exist in separate little boxes.

They all overlap.

Maybe that is what stood out to me most this week.

After two weeks away, I did not come back with some huge breakthrough or perfectly packaged lesson.

I came back to regular life.

Cooking dinner.

Trying the dessert place your kids have been sending you.

Buying the book your daughter cannot stop talking about.

Watching your three kids put their devices down long enough to simply enjoy being siblings.

Trading pictures with your sister all day.

Sitting at a baseball field for four hours.

Making dinner with Mom.

Showing up for community.

And maybe that is exactly what I needed.

The big moments matter.

Vacations matter.

Rest matters.

But I think I am becoming much more aware of how much of the good stuff happens in between them.

In the conversations.

In the routines.

In the laughter.

In the moments you almost do not think to take a picture of.

I do not want to miss those while waiting for something bigger to happen.

Because sometimes the ordinary stuff turns out to be the stuff you remember most.

With Bri, it’s a vibe. ✨
