The Lesson I Didn’t Plan For: When Life Shifts Your Priorities

With Bri Weekly | Week 3

This week was a reminder that life has a way of shifting your priorities, sometimes without warning.

It started with two incredible days at Fanatics Fest with my kids. I had the chance to introduce them to the world of trading cards while reconnecting with an industry that has shaped more than 16 years of my professional life.

Watching them experience the hobby through their own eyes made the weekend even more special.

They made their first trades, met some of the biggest YouTubers in the hobby, and discovered pieces of the experience that were uniquely theirs. My oldest son also had an opportunity to practice his sports photography skills, capturing moments throughout the event while continuing to explore a passion he has been developing.

One of my favorite moments was introducing my daughter and niece to Mama Breaks & Co.

It mattered to me that they saw women represented in a space that can sometimes feel heavily male dominated. I wanted them to see, firsthand, that women belong in every room, every industry, and yes, every hobby too.

Those were the moments I expected to remember from the week.

Then life shifted.

Just two days later, I found myself hospitalized.

Suddenly, everything that had felt urgent was no longer urgent.

The emails could wait. The plans could wait. The opportunities could wait. The never ending list of things I thought I needed to accomplish could wait.

My body could not.

That experience forced me to pause in a way I had not planned for and reminded me that no deadline, ambition, opportunity, or goal is more important than taking care of yourself.

As I began catching up and returning to everyday life, I found myself carrying a few reminders with me:

✨ Pay attention to what you are putting into your body.

✨ Be intentional about who and what you allow to occupy your peace.

✨ Listen when your body whispers so it does not have to scream.

We spend so much time preparing for what is next.

The next opportunity. The next accomplishment. The next trip. The next project. The next milestone.

And there is nothing wrong with ambition. I believe deeply in growth, purpose, and continuing to build the life you want.

But part of building a meaningful life is remembering that you are one of the things worth taking care of along the way.

Without your health and well being, everything else eventually has to wait.

This week’s lesson was not about productivity.

It was not about career growth.

It was about gratitude, perspective, and remembering that caring for yourself is not something you earn after everything else is finished.

It is part of the work.

And maybe that is what intentional living really looks like sometimes. Not having every moment perfectly planned, but being willing to recognize when life is asking you to shift your attention.

The week began with joy, family, sports, new experiences, and watching my children discover interests of their own.

It ended with a reminder to slow down and appreciate the person experiencing all of those things too.

What is one lesson this week gave you that you want to carry into the next?

Because growth is not just about what we accomplish.

It is also about what we learn along the way.

Until next week’s update, keep growing with purpose.
