Church and the gym!
Two places I always say I want to go. Two places I want to be consistent with. Somehow, they’re also the two places I have the hardest time getting to.
I’ve been sitting with that.
Both give me something I need. Church gives me space to connect with God, reflect, and feed my spirit. The gym gives me time to move my body, build strength, and take care of my health. I know why they matter. I know I want them in my life.
Getting myself there is where I struggle.
It’s a frustrating thing to admit when you’re someone who knows how to show up. I can manage responsibilities, make plans, support people, and help keep things moving. Being a mom, a leader, and an entrepreneur means there is always something that needs my attention.
Somehow, the things that are specifically for me keep becoming the things I can move.
I can go next Sunday.
I can work out tomorrow.
I’ll get consistent when things settle down.
Except there is always something else coming. Another responsibility. Another full week. Another reason to push my own needs a little further down the list.
I’m realizing that I can’t keep waiting for an open calendar to start taking care of myself.
There is something uncomfortable about recognizing that you’ve made room for so much while still struggling to make room for what helps you feel grounded and well. I don’t say that to shame myself. I’m saying it because I want to be honest about where I am.
I want my faith and my health to have a real place in my week. I want to give them more than whatever energy I have left after everything else is handled.
That means starting with something I can actually do.
One day a week. One church service. One gym visit. A place on the calendar that I take seriously.
This week, I actually started. Church online on Sunday. The gym on Monday. Neither one was a big production, and both of them counted.
I also need to let a small beginning count. A short workout still means I went. Showing up after missing a week still matters. I don’t want one missed day to turn into another month of telling myself I need to start.
I’m still figuring this out. This is me acknowledging that something needs to change while I’m standing right in the middle of it.
I love the people I show up for. I care about the work I do and the things I’m building. I also want the woman doing all of that to feel supported, spiritually connected, and physically stronger.
She needs some time on the calendar, too.
Maybe you have your own version of church and the gym. Something you keep saying you want to do because you know it would be good for you.
What would it look like to make room for it this week?
I’m asking myself the same thing.
